Over the past decade, the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) has been one of the principal change agents that are leading the transformation of the Information Communications and Technology landscape in Ghana. Its activities have resulted in a significant uptake in the country’s voice penetration and broadband access leading to an improvement in the digital divide situation. The developments have not occurred only on spatial basis but across there socio-demographic indicators. These significant achievements have resulted in the organization being ranked consistently by many notable ICT groups like the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), Commonwealth Telecommunications Organization (CTO), GSMA and other organizations as one of the best performing Universal Access Funds in the world.
It is therefore not surprising that in recent years, there has been growing interest in the activities of GIFEC from both internal and external sources. These include government agencies, universities, international organizations, companies and individuals who continually request for data and other information for their activities.
GIFEC hired CERSGIS to embark on a digital mapping of all GIFEC project sites nationwide to facilitate easy access to information.

As one of the critical agencies within the public specter spectrum, GIFEC plays a critical role in providing data and other information for ICT policy making issues. However, quick access still remains a challenge. To address this challenge GIFEC wants to embark upon a comprehensive digital mapping of all its project sites for hosting on its web portal for easy access by organizations and individuals. The overall goal of this project is to improve the decision making and policy formulation process with credible data in real time manner.
The objective of the project is to improve access to information to the general public and other key stakeholders. Specifically, the project seeks to achieve the following:

  • 1. Provide real time information and data to the general public
  • 2. Create opportunities for partnerships and linkages with other organizations
  • 3. Facilitate effective monitoring of GIFEC projects
  • 4. Ensure effective utilization of the GIFEC webpage
